 Peterson Foundation Hal and Charlie
Application
Process

A formal letter of inquiry is not required.  Applicants who meet the Foundation's guidelines should contact the Foundation in person or by phone, email, or letter to briefly explain their organization's need and to request an application.  If the request falls within the current interests and requirements of the Foundation, a current application will be emailed to the organization.  Once received, the application should be completed and returned to the Foundation within six months.

Requirements are fully explained the the Grant Application Form, but include a short narrative describing the applicant and its current need, a list of staff and board members, project and operational budgets, detailed financial statements, an IRS determination letter, and a copy of the applicant's most recent IRS Form 990.  Applications for building construction, renovation, or the purchase of real property must include architectural renderings and/or plats, a description of the improvements, and detailed, professionally prepared cost estimates.  Additional items may be required at the discretion of the Foundation.

The Board of Trustees meets monthly to review grant applications.  The application deadline for any meeting is generally the first business day of the month.  Foundation staff will review the application prior to consideration by the Board of Trustees to ensure that the applications falls within the guidelines of the Foundation and that all requirements have been met.  The Foundation manager may request additonal information or a site visit prior to consideration by the Board of Trustees.  All applicants will be notified by letter that their applicaton was approved or declined, generally within one month of the application date.

FAQ’s

Listed below are the most frequent questions that have arisen during the review and consideration process.

What organizations does Foundation fund?

The Foundation funds tax exempt organizations and certain governmental units.  It does not make grants to individuals.

Are there geographical limitations for your grant applications?

The Foundation will only consider grant applications in Kerr and adjacent counties in Texas. State or National organizations must have an active local unit in the qualifying area which is to be the primary applicant.  In order for the local unit to receive the grant funding, the applicant should be prepared to show that the grant funds will be spent so as to benefit their charitable purpose in Kerr and/or adjacent counties.

May we apply for a grant on line?

No.  We prefer a more personal approach to the process.  Qualified organizations are encouraged to apply directly to our office so that our staff can advise and assist the applicant while obtaining preliminary information to assist the Foundation with planning for grant funding.  Each organization will apply on our form which will assure that the process is uniform to all the applicants.
